Giving Purposes
Foundation contributions will be used to meet the needs of all segments of our community. Our primary focus is to enhance the non-profit organizations and community service initiatives that support the interest of Martha's Vineyard Savings Bank's Community Partners.
Giving Categories
Grants for nonprofit organizations will be considered in the following areas:
- Health and Human Service Programs
- Youth and Education Initiatives
- Economic Development and Community Partnership Programs
- Arts and Culture
Restrictions
The Foundation will not provide support for the following circumstances:
- Organizations that are not tax-exempt under federal tax regulations
- Political, sectarian, and religious organizations
- Travel expenses, including school field trips
- Social functions
- Fund-raising events sponsored by third party organizations (Foundation only makes direct contributions to primary organizations)
- Athletic events or activities
- Individuals
- General operating budgets
- Annual memberships or appeals
- Capital Campaigns
Application Procedures
Applicants are asked to submit a written request that includes the following information:
1) Amount requested
2) Statement (up to two pages) describing specific purpose and project goals
3) The Foundation Giving Category addressed by the request
4) Other pertinent supporting data, such as a budget for the project
5) A copy of the organization’s most recent 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS
6) A brief description of the organization and its goals (if not a recipient of a Foundation grant during the past two years)
Grant decisions will be made during meetings held quarterly. Applications must be received by the Foundation Secretary at least one month before the next scheduled meeting.
