Our Story

For over a century, Martha's Vineyard Bank has served the communities of Martha's Vineyard and Falmouth with personal care, local expertise, and a deep commitment to reinvesting in the places we call home.

What started as a handful of neighbors pooling their resources has grown into a full-service bank, and our reasons for being here have not changed. We still measure success by what we help build, one loan, one family, one business at a time.

Born Out of Necessity

In 1909, Martha's Vineyard had two national banks but no local savings institution. Residents were traveling to the mainland just to secure a loan. In response, a group of community leaders established the Island’s first cooperative bank, bringing much-needed financial services close to home.

Community First, Always

What began as a single office and a simple idea has grown into multiple locations across Martha's Vineyard and Falmouth. Today, we combine neighborly service with modern financial solutions and reinvest in the communities we serve. The philosophy that started it all continues to guide everything we do.

Our Values

Over a century of community banking has taught us that how you do business matters as much as what you do.
