Personal Banking
What's needed to open an account
-
Social Security number. This lets us verify your identity and meet government regulations. No SSN? You may still be able to open an account by visiting a local branch.
-
A government issued photo ID, such as a drivers license, passport, or state or military ID.
-
A valid email address.
-
An opening deposit. Fund your new account with a credit card, debit card, checking or savings account.
If the address on your ID isn't current, we may ask for a document that confirms where you live.
Personal Checking
We have three primary personal checking (spending) accounts:
Basic Checking: A simple spending account for everyday needs.
Voyager Debit: A basic account that offers up to $15 in monthly ATM credits if certain criteria is met.
Personal NOW: An interest-bearing spending account that requires a $200 minimum balance to avoid withdrawal fees.
All of them offer Online and Mobile Banking.
Personal Savings
We have three types of personal savings accounts:
Statement Savings: This is our basic interest-bearing savings account.
Passbook Savings: A traditional account that requires in-office record keeping for added security.
Money Market: This account has a tiered rate structure, so that higher balances earn more interest.

FDIC & DIF deposit protection
At Martha's Vineyard, Bank, your deposits are insured in full, with no dollar limit. The FDIC protects your deposits up to $250,000, and anything above that is covered by the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF).
No limit: DIF covers everything above FDIC limits across savings, checking, NOW accounts, CDs, and money market accounts.
Automatic: The added coverage applies the moment you open or add to an account at a DIF member bank. No application needed.
Open to all: Part-time and seasonal residents qualify too, as long as they bank in Massachusetts with a DIF member like us.
For every account: The same unlimited protection applies to both personal and business deposit accounts.

Bill Pay: Enrolling
To pay your bills online, you must first enroll in Online Banking. You can do this here. Once you're logged in, click Online Bill Pay and follow the prompts to enroll. Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and you'll land in the Payment Center, where you can pay any company or person with a US address.
Bill Pay: Adding a payee
From the Payment Center, click Add a Company or Person. Search for the biller or type the details yourself, then click Add. Check your email to confirm the payee is valid. Click Finish when you're done, or keep going to add more.
Bill Pay: Setting up AutoPay
In the Payment Center, find the biller you want to pay and click AutoPay beneath their name. When the "Never miss a payment" box appears, choose Set Up AutoPay. Fill in the required fields, then click Start Sending Payments. (No payee yet? Add one first, then return to this step.)
Bill Pay: Scheduling a payment
Next to the biller in your Payment Center, enter the amount and a "Deliver By" date, then confirm. Need it there faster? Choose Rush Delivery for an added fee. If the company or person isn't listed yet, add them first, then schedule.
Bill Pay: Viewing recent, pending, or upcoming payments
Click Activity below a payee's name to see recent and pending payments together. For what's still owed, open Bills or Bills Due in the Payment Center. You can also snap a photo of a paper bill in Mobile Banking to get a one time reminder, or turn on Reminders to be alerted by email when a payment is due.
